The Joy of Painting

Dude. Am I the only one who receives subliminal life messages via Bob Ross’ videos? I love his little Ross-isms.

Case in point:

“Sometimes the lack of detail is as important as the detail.”

“The secret to doing anything is believing that you can do it. Anything that you believe you can do strong enough, you can do. Anything. As long as you believe.”

“You need the dark in order for the light to show. It’s just like in life. You can’t have happiness without the sorrow so the good Lord gives us sorrow.”

“We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents so learn to use anything. It happens.”

“There is nothing wrong with having a tree as a friend.”

“Just let it go. There we are.”

“Now then, you have to make a major decision. Where does your mountain live in your world?… And you have to make some big decisions here. Where is the light going to hit your mountain?”

and my personal favourite, “I’ve always been weird. Everybody who knows me expects that.”

I love how he looks at a canvas and goes, “Maybe it rained the night before…” or “Maybe back here there’s a tall, strong tree”.

Uh-mazing. He sounds like a yoga instructor but for painting… Blood pressure lowered.
