Ran into an artist friend at the opening of an art show. He looked happier than ever in his plain white t-shirt and black pants, an about-face from his decidedly colour-full wardrobe.

“Where did all the colour go?” I asked.

“This is my new uniform,” he declared. “White shirt, black pants. All the colour is inside.”

Was spotted secretly smiling to myself while stirring my coffee at Starbucks, apparently. I had no idea I was doing it at the time, but I do remember what I was thinking about.

It’s making me smile now…

All the colour is inside.

The best thing about Paris last week or so happened on the flight home. I was getting up to brush my teeth when KG snuck to the seat next to me.

It was a l-o-n-g week. We were both delirious. Then he started with his classic impersonations.

I laughed and laughed. I laughed until my laugh made me laugh because it sounded so strange.

I have a friend whose laugh always makes me laugh, and the opposite is the case for her. We sound like Austin Powers villains laughing over each other because I genuinely find her laugh hilarious. Ba-ha-HA-HA-HA!

The best way I can describe a good laugh is this: you’re in an arid place caked in dried mud and you feel the first fat drop of rain fall on your face.

Anyway. Thank God for friends who make you laugh. Good for the soul.
